He has worked in various legal capacities ranging from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice and law firms e.g. Ayanlaja & Adesanya, Legal Practitioners, Russel Cooke Potter & Chapman, Solicitors. UK, Babalakin & Co. (Legal Practitioners).
In 1993 he formed a partnership in the law firm of Akinwunmi & Busari
He is a member of several professional bodies e.g. Nigerian Bar Association (“NBA”), Chairman Banking Finance and Insolvency Committee, International Bar Association (“NBA”), Insolvency and Credtors Rights Committee, Insol International; International Federation of Insolvency Practitioners, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Law & Tax Committee). He is also a founding member and a Fellow of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (“FBR”), and current President of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (“BRIPAN”)
He has had over 23 (twenty three) years experience as a Legal Practitioner and Insolvency Consultant, with a specialization in secured credit transactions, debt and corporate recovery, insolvency and turn around strategies. At various times, he has acted as Receiver, Receiver/Manager, Liquidator of insolvent companies, legal adviser to consortia of lenders, insolvency practitioners and insolvent or troubled companies, played lead roles in negotiation between banks and defaulting borrowers. He has also been involved in various significant domestic reorganizations, insolvencies, creditor’s rights issues, syndicated loan transactions and recoveries, as well as complex corporate insolvency litigation matters.
He is for the fourth consecutive year, the sole Nigerian contributor to the “Insolvency Case Study: IBA/World Bank/Harvard University Research Project” the most comprehensive analysis on comparative insolvency ever undertaken. He is also the Nigerian contributor to the international insolvency text “Recognition and Enforcement of Cross Border Insolvency” recently updated by Insol International. He has also for the last 3 (three) years been a contributor for Nigeria to a co-publication of the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, “Doing Business in Nigeria”
