School Children in ClassC

ourage Education Foundation (CEF) takes children who are unable to attend or continue in school due to insufficient parental resources and takes over their education. CEF visits various public schools in high-density communities, and through classroom teachers and administrators, identifies children from indigent homes, who have demonstrated strong academic ability.

Those selected are put back in schools close to their homes. The Foundation takes care of their school fees and in some cases, levies, uniforms, footwear, books, writing materials and transportation. A committee made of volunteers rigorously monitors the performance and welfare of the pupil beneficiaries and liaises on a regular basis with their schools and parents.

Those who encounter academic problems are supported with supplementary coaching. Although Courage Education Foundation originated in Lagos, we have a national focus. Nomination of candidates for the CEF sponsorship is open to everyone, irrespective of sex, faith, or ethnicity. The states of origin of the current beneficiaries are: Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Jigawa, Kwara, Lagos, Kogi, Nasarawa, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo; but resident in Lagos for easy supervision.

The Board of Directors and Partners have been of tremendous support to the scholarship program. After ten years of operation, we have realised that there is still so much more to be done and we cannot do it alone. The Foundation will benefit from a wider range of support. Part of all funds raised is placed in a Trust Fund for the future sustainability of the Foundation’s objectives. These funds are managed by our Trustees, Sterling Asset Management & Trustees Limited, a subsidiary of Sterling Bank Plc, while our accounts are audited annually. The Foundation fully expects the Trust Fund to reach a point where it is self-sustaining and self-perpetuating.

The office, located in Obanikoro is run by a small full-time staff and supported by a team of volunteers. Overhead costs are kept to the barest minimum.
